An existing residence required a new staircase and balcony and the owner wanted one that would not deteriorate and detract from the home as well as remain safe with limited maintainence. The decision by the builder was to use steel combined with wood.

The wood steps are attached to the steel treads by hidden fasteners. The wood steps and the handrail match throughout the project.

This view shows the wood frame of a ceiling without the ceiling board installed. Here the bolts can be seen going through the steel beam and the wood joists with washers installed in between to create the gap.
